Andrew J. Niekamp Obituary

NIEKAMP, Andrew J. "Andy", age 76 of Kettering, passed away on Saturday, November 14, 2009. Andy was born to the late Andrew J. and Alma (Bertke) Niekamp in Celina, Ohio on August 21, 1933.

He graduated from St. Henry High School in 1951, volunteered for the draft in 1953 and served two years in the US Army. Andy went on to receive his Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from the University of Dayton in 1959 and his Juris Doctorate from the School of Law at The Ohio State University in 1961. He worked as an assistant prosecuting attorney for Montgomery County for 25 years.

Andy was a great family man and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was very proud of his five children four of whom are Eagle Scouts. He was an avid card player, frequent blood donor, avid Ohio State fan, loved taking long walks and working in his yard.

Preceded in death by his brother, Lester Niekamp and sisters, Ethel Rinderle and Joan Rammel. Andy is survived by his five children; Cynthia Niekamp and her daughters Elizabeth and Emilie; Andrew J. Niekamp, III; Mark and Daphne Niekamp and their children Chelsea, Jordan, Grant and Tate; John “Jack” and Laura Niekamp and their children Katie, Jennifer and Thomas; and David Niekamp and his children Luke and Molly and his brothers, Paul, Thomas, James and sisters Phyllis and Kathleen.

The family will greet friends on Tuesday, Nov. 17th from 6:00 – 8:00PM at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E Stroop Rd., Kettering. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at Noon at St. Albert the Great Church, 3033 Far Hills Ave., Kettering. Burial at a later date in St. Henry’s Cemetery, St. Henry, Ohio. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Smile Train.
